Job Overview

CIYOTA is seeking a passionate and dedicated Science Teacher to teach Biology and Chemistry across O-Level and A-Level classes at CIYOTA Secondary school. The successful candidate will inspire curiosity, deliver hands-on laboratory learning, and prepare students for UNEB examinations in a dynamic and diverse refugee settlement environment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Teach Biology and Chemistry at O-Level (UCE) and A-Level (UACE) as assigned.
  2. Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons and laboratory practicals aligned to the UNEB curriculum.
  3. Develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with national curriculum objectives.
  4. Ensure safe custody and proper use of laboratory equipment and enforce lab safety protocols at all times.
  5. Assess students regularly and prepare them effectively for UCE and UACE examinations.
  6. Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide written/verbal feedback to parents.
  7. Motivate and inspire students through imaginative, hands-on presentations and experiments.
  8. Maintain classroom and laboratory discipline in a respectful and positive manner.
  9. Collaborate with the Science department to coordinate resources and support colleagues.
  10. Participate in school events, staff meetings (Fridays), and professional development activities.
  11. Uphold CIYOTA's child safeguarding policy and code of conduct at all times.

 

Requirements

  1.   Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Biology and Chemistry, or a BSc with Biology & Chemistry as teaching subjects.
  2.  Registration with the Ministry of Education.
  3.  Minimum 2 years' secondary school teaching experience preferred; outstanding fresh graduates may apply.
  4.   Strong knowledge of the UNEB curriculum for Biology and Chemistry (UCE & UACE).
  5.   Proven ability to conduct laboratory practicals safely and effectively.
  6.   Excellent communication, classroom management and interpersonal skills.
  7.   Ability to work with sensitivity in a refugee settlement context.
  8.   Proficiency in English; Swahili or knowledge of local languages is an added advantage.
  9.   Commitment to child protection and CIYOTA's organisational values.
