Job Overview

CIYOTA is seeking a committed and inspiring teacher to deliver Christian Religious Education (CRE) and Divinity for O-Level and A-Level at the CIYOTA Secondary school. The ideal candidate will combine strong subject knowledge with pastoral sensitivity, fostering an inclusive and faith-affirming learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Teach CRE and Divinity at O-Level (UCE) and A-Level (UACE) as assigned.
  2. Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, thought-provoking lessons aligned to the UNEB curriculum.
  3. Develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with national curriculum objectives.
  4. Assess students regularly and prepare them effectively for UCE and UACE examinations.
  5. Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide feedback to parents.
  6. Foster an inclusive classroom culture that is respectful of diverse faith backgrounds.
  7. Organise and facilitate faith-based school events, assemblies and retreats as directed.
  8. Provide pastoral support and guidance to students on educational, spiritual and social matters.
  9. Maintain classroom discipline in a respectful and positive manner.
  10. Collaborate with the Humanities/Religious Studies department to coordinate resources.
  11. Uphold CIYOTA's child safeguarding policy and code of conduct at all times.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Religious Education/CRE and Divinity.
  2. Registration with (or eligible for registration with) the Uganda National Teachers' College/Ministry of Education.
  3. Minimum 2 years' secondary school teaching experience preferred; outstanding fresh graduates may apply.
  4. Strong knowledge of the UNEB curriculum for CRE and Divinity at UCE and UACE levels.
  5. Ability to teach both CRE and Divinity confidently across all secondary levels.
  6. Excellent communication, pastoral, classroom management and interpersonal skills.
  7. Ability to work with empathy and sensitivity in a refugee settlement context.
  8. Proficiency in English; Swahili or knowledge of local languages is an added advantage.
  9. Personal integrity and strong moral character consistent with CIYOTA's values.
  10. Commitment to child protection and CIYOTA's organisational code of conduct.
