Job Overview

Duty station: CIYOTA Secondary school, Kyangwali

Reports to: Head teacher


The School Matron is responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of the Boarding Section. She ensures proper supervision, discipline, guidance, welfare, health, safety, and cleanliness of boarding learners, creating a supportive and secure living environment.

Key Responsibilities

1.Boarding Supervision and Welfare

·     Supervise learners in the dormitories and ensure their safety at all times.

·      Manage discipline of students while in the dormitory in line with school policies.

·      Support learners’ emotional wellbeing and provide basic guidance when needed.

·      Care for sick boarding learners in coordination with the School Nurse and boarding team.

·      Keep the Head Teacher informed on specific issues of concern relating to individual students.

2. Daily Routine Management

·      Ensure learners wake up on time and leave dormitories in time for classes.

·      Monitor order, cleanliness, and proper arrangement of dormitories.

·      Ensure learners observe hygiene standards and boarding rules.

3. Health and Wellbeing Support

·      Support health education initiatives in collaboration with the School Nurse.

·      Assist learners in discussing emotional or personal concerns and refer complex issues appropriately.

·      Maintain confidentiality of learners’ personal matters.

4. Communication and Reporting

·      Communicate with parents when required in coordination with school leadership.

·      Maintain accurate boarding records and incident reports.

·      Attend relevant meetings concerning boarding welfare and safeguarding.

Requirements

  1. Certificate in Nursing or a related field (minimum requirement).
  2. Must be a qualified nurse with valid certification.
  3. Experience working in a school or boarding environment is an added advantage.
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  5. High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  6. Ability to work with adolescents and handle sensitive situations with care.
  7. Good organizational and problem-solving skills.
