Job Description

CIYOTA is seeking a dedicated and passionate Early Childhood Development (ECD) Teacher at CIYOTA Primary School, located in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement.
This is a full-time position responsible for delivering quality foundational education to young learners. The ECD Teacher will create a nurturing and stimulating learning environment, implement an age-appropriate curriculum, and support the holistic development of children. The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of the ECD Section at the school.

Responsibilities

1. Support School Development Goals: Work towards the successful implementation of the school development plan, particularly in relation to Early Childhood Development (ECD), and take part in school events and activities, including those on weekends or holidays.
2. Plan and Deliver Engaging Lessons: Plan, prepare, and present interactive, inclusive, and age-appropriate lessons using songs, games, stories, and hands-on activities to foster literacy, numeracy, motor, and social skills.
3. Develop and Use Schemes of Work: Create schemes of work and activity plans aligned with the national nursery curriculum, ensuring all lesson objectives meet developmental milestones for children aged 3-6 years.
4. Create a Positive Learning Environment: Organize a safe, colorful, and stimulating classroom with well-maintained learning materials and play equipment to support exploration, creativity, and play-based learning.
5. Promote Child Safety and Well-being: Always safeguard the health, safety, and emotional well-being of all children under your care, promoting positive behavior and using child-friendly classroom management strategies.
6. Assess and Report Progress: Observe, assess, and record each child's development, behavior, and learning progress, and meet all documentation and reporting requirements.
7. Support Child Growth and Development: Take full responsibility for the academic and holistic development of every child in your class, ensuring individual needs are met and progress is continuous.
8. Mark and Evaluate Learning Activities: Prepare, mark, and evaluate children's work to support their development and encourage learning through continuous feedback and reinforcement.
9. Collaborate with School Staff: Work closely with the Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher, and fellow nursery staff to plan lessons, coordinate resources, and implement effective teaching practices.
10. Communicate with Parents and Guardians: Provide regular feedback to parents or guardians about their child's learning and behavior during parent-teacher meetings and visitation days.
11. Coordinate and Share Best Practices: Contribute to curriculum development and coordinate specific learning areas while supporting colleagues through collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
12. Stay Informed and Flexible: Keep up to date with curriculum changes, ECD trends, and new teaching strategies, and demonstrate flexibility when working with colleagues or adjusting to school needs.
13. Maintain Discipline and Order: Encourage good behavior and mutual respect among children using positive discipline methods that support emotional and social development.
14. Attend Meetings and School Activities: Participate in weekly staff meetings held every Friday and engage in planning, reflection, and evaluation sessions with your team.
15. Ensure Proper Use of Resources: Take care of and ensure the regular maintenance of teaching aids, toys, and equipment used in class, promoting responsible use and safe storage.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
1. Certificate or Diploma in Early Childhood Development (ECD) - from a recognized teacher training institution
institution.
2. O-Level (UCE) or A-Level (UACE) Certificate - basic academic background in English, Mathematics, and relevant subjects.
3. Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education is an added is an added advantage.
4. Training in Child Psychology and Developmental Stages - to understand and support children's physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth.
5. First Aid and Child Safety Certification - knowledge of how to handle minor injuries and emergencies.

1. Strong Communication Skills - ability to speak clearly, listen actively, and give age-appropriate instructions.
2. Creativity and Innovation - using songs, games, storytelling, and visual aids to enhance learning.
3. Patience and Empathy - to deal with young children's diverse needs and behaviors.
4. Classroom Management Skills - creating a safe, orderly, and stimulating learning environment.
5. Observation and Assessment Skills - monitoring children's development and identifying learning or behavioral challenges.
6. Teamwork and Collaboration - working well with fellow teachers, parents, and school administrators.
7. Basic ICT Skills - for preparing learning materials, using digital tools, or managing records.
8. Organizational Skills - ability to plan lessons, manage time, and maintain documentation.
9. Knowledge of ECD Curriculum - understanding learning outcomes for nursery and kindergarten levels.
10. Emotional Intelligence - managing one's emotions and being sensitive to children's emotional needs.
11. Language Proficiency - fluency in English and/or the local language for better communication with children.
12. Cultural Sensitivity - respecting and integrating children's backgrounds into learning.
13. Adaptability - being flexible in handling different situations or unexpected changes in children's behavior.
